One of the most coveted body parts is probably a flat stomach. Looking at my picture , you can see why Fit Women Over 40 asked me to be a guest writer for their blog. In my article, “Eating to Enhance Your Image”, I passed on a few general tips. Here I’ll let you in on some secrets for burning stomach fat. Let’s get to it;

  1. Suck it In. No really, this is the first tip. You’ve seen those commercials for that stomach belt where people claim they’ve lost all this weight. Well I don’t know about losing 100′s of pounds by simply wearing a belt. But I do know that keeping your stomach muscles tight and contracted for a period of time significantly tightens your stomach. Often when people sit whether at work or while driving, they let their stomach puff all the way out, completely relaxing the stomach muscles. However, if you tuck your underbelly in or slightly tighten stomach muscles like what occurs naturally when we laugh, the muscles become trained to tighten.
  1. Blowing it Up. Picture your stomach as an unblown balloon. It’s brand new and has never been blown up. However, once you blow it upItalina Image Consultant and Stylist and then let the air out, even though the air is gone, you can see the balloon has expanded. Your stomach is the same way. So avoid over eating to the point of expanding/blowing up your stomach. The same goes for breathing. During your every day activity, try filling your chest area with air instead of blowing up your stomach. The chest should rise and fall with each breath, not the stomach.
  1. Stressing Out. When we STAY in a constant state of stress, our body releases a hormone called cortisol, which among other things increases the storage of abdominal fat. While stress may be a part of life, it is important to return to a state of relaxation after experiencing a stressful situation. Relaxing your body helps keep cortisol at reasonable levels.

So there’s your flat stomach starter kit. Being aware of your stomach muscles and stress level is a huge part of it. Naturally, cardio is a quick and efficient way to lose stomach fat. These are tips for stomach maintenance throughout your day, even if you are not exercising. For other health and fitness tips and more shoot me an email at
